Itinerary
- Departure from Cusco: The tour begins with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We head south of the city, leaving the busy urban area behind and entering fertile valleys, agricultural fields, and quiet rural communities. Along the route, the guide introduces the historical and cultural importance of the South Valley.
- Tipón Archaeological Complex: Our first stop is Tipón, an impressive Inca site known for its advanced hydraulic engineering. As you walk through its terraces, fountains, and perfectly aligned water channels, you will learn how the Incas mastered water management for agricultural and ceremonial purposes. The constant flow of crystal-clear water still functions today, showcasing remarkable Inca precision.
- Pikillacta Archaeological Site: We continue to Pikillacta, a large pre-Inca city built by the Wari civilization, which existed long before the Incas. This site features wide streets, plazas, and adobe structures, offering insight into early urban planning in the Andes. From here, you can also enjoy views of the surrounding valleys and wetlands.
- Andahuaylillas Church: Our final stop is Andahuaylillas, home to the famous Church of San Pedro Apóstol, often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes.” Inside, you will find beautifully decorated ceilings, murals, altarpieces, and colonial artwork that reflect the blend of Andean and European religious traditions.
- Return to Cusco: After the visit to Andahuaylillas, we return to Cusco, arriving in the city in the early afternoon and dropping you off near your hotel.
