Itinerary

Waqrapukara
  • Early Morning Departure from Cusco: The tour begins early in the morning with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We travel south through highland valleys and rural communities, enjoying panoramic views of mountains, rivers, and grazing lands. During the journey, the guide will share information about the historical importance of Waqrapukara and its role during the Inca period.
  • Breakfast Stop: We stop at a local restaurant along the route to enjoy breakfast and rest before beginning the hike (breakfast included if specified).
  • Arrival at the Trailhead: After breakfast, we continue by vehicle until reaching the starting point of the hike. From here, we begin our walk through open Andean landscapes, following a trail that gradually ascends toward the archaeological site.
  • Hike to Waqrapukara: The hike takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Along the trail, you will enjoy wide views of the surrounding valleys and dramatic rock formations. As you approach the site, the iconic horn-shaped peaks of Waqrapukara begin to appear, creating a powerful and scenic entrance.
  • Exploration of Waqrapukara: Upon arrival, you will have time to explore the Waqrapukara Archaeological Complex, walking through ceremonial platforms, stone structures, and ancient pathways. The guide will explain the spiritual and strategic importance of the site, believed to have been a ceremonial center and military outpost during the Inca era.
  • Time for Photos and Reflection: There is free time to take photographs and appreciate the breathtaking views of the Apurímac Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the region. The combination of archaeology and natural scenery makes this site truly unique.
  • Descent and Lunch: After the visit, we begin the descent back to the trailhead and travel to a local restaurant for lunch (lunch included if specified).
  • Return to Cusco: In the afternoon, we return to Cusco, arriving in the early evening and dropping you off near your hotel.
